When Jimmy Carr announced that tickets for his new tour were going on sale today I decided to book a pair and so looked up if and when he’d be in Birmingham — September 22nd at the Symphony Hall.

Then I had a sudden crisis of conscience: could I afford them? They were £22 each plus a £2 or so booking fee. I had the money, but nearly £50 was maybe a little much to spend on a whim. So after nearly a whole minute of wrestling, I decided to go for it on the basis that it would be a fun night and it’s been simply ages since I’d last seen a comedian live (Eddie Izzard at the National Indoor Arena some years ago).

And as if by some karmic reward for doing something nice for myself for a change, at the end of the telephone conversation the lovely lady operator took pleasure in informing me that tickets for disabled visitors and their companions were in fact half-price.
